Mino City that is one of the most beautiful City in Gifu.
Today, I am going to recommend you to know about Mino city that is my wife’s hometown.
It’s easy to acsess.
This city is next to Seki city that is my hometown.
Mino City is one of the most small city in this region.
The city has great view of a ancient atmosphere.
The city is still making old traditional Japanese paper called “Washi”.
Of course, there are several great cycling roads, but, from now, Im trying to describe the history of town as a local person.
History
The city was called “Kouduchi” in the past.
The city was called “port of kouduchi” despite having no ocean.
Because, the city has significant port of river.
The river is called “Nagara river” that is one of the most popular river in Japan.
In the past, the river had a lot of boats and ships to be transportation.
In the north, there was a small country called “Gujo” and “Hida”.
That’s why, the place had significant responsibility to make a transportation.
Industry
The city was also having making paper.
Making paper is required a lot of clear water.
So, this region was able to grow those industry.
The famous manufacture is Furukawashiko that is making great products for all over Japan.
A Atmosphere
The city has still old atmosphere in the center of the town.
The town is called “Mino machi” as a castle town.
If you can go to the town, I recommend you to walk this town on foot directly.
There are several shops, restaurants, souvenir shops, and accommodations.
You can purchase everything, also you can take a special traditional souvenir.
Especially, the town has several shops that are selling Japanese traditional paper called “Minowashi”.
So, if you can walk this town, you can see Japanese traditional paper that are really beautiful.
Food
Especially, if you can go to the place, I recommend you to have a local food called “Goheimochi”.
The food is special food for local people.
The food consists of rice and miso as a seasoning.
Most of local people like this food in special day.
Landmark.
The city has several great land mark.
You can go to the place with your bike easily.
The first one is Oyada shrine that is the famous shrine as a great atmosphere.
In Autum, you can see breathtaking view of the trees that are maple.
Moreover, the architecture is quite excellent too.
The gate of the shrine, there are two sculptures stature made of wood.
The great wood statue are called “Niouzo”.
If you prefer climbing the mountain, you can climb a mountain called “Tennouzan”.
It takes around 40 minutes from the shrine to the top of the mountain on foot.
You must be happy if you can climb!!
