Explore Gifu Prefecture with Cycling: A Journey to Norikura Mountain

Introduction

This is Atsushi Mabuchi who lives in Gifu prefecture.

I’m representitive this blog and talk about what you can stay enjoyly this Gifu Prefecture for trip or business.

In fact, I am into cycling for 10 years.

That’s why, from this experience, I would like to talk to what you should go to this Prefecture.

This Prefecture is famous for Shirakawa go and Takaya town.

But, I reccomend you to go to the mountain called “Norikura”.

How was Norikura mountain.

Last week, I went to Takayama region to go cycling by car.

I would like to explain what I enjoy to go cycling this spot.

This is Norikura mountain that is 3,026 m high.

Wonderfully, you can go to this spot by bike.

Today, I would like to explain how to go to this place by bike.

At first, you should go to the base of the mountain called “Hounokidaira ski park” by bus from Takayama station with cycling bag.

How to take a bus that bound for Norikura

You should take a bus that bound for Norikura.

If you would like to take a bus, it takes around 40 minutes from Takayama station to hounokidaira ski park.

You might have to have several coins, but don’t be worry, if you don’t have several coins, you can get off the bus from kind bus clerk.

In Japan, the kind clerk of this bus can excange from big coins into small coins easily.

It takes around 1,230 yen one way from takayama station to hounoki daira bus station.

This parking place can accomodate over 200 cars.

So, you can take a rent car or taxi.

If you would like to go cycling, you can go adventure for a long time from then.

Go to the top of the mountain path by bike!!

At first, you should go to the intersection of mountain path called “Norikura skyline”.

You should take a left way.

It takes around 1km from the bus station to this intersection.

If you can take the street, you have to take a chalenging way to the sacred mountain.

There are a lot of steep sloop all around until the top of the mountain path.

But, as you know, you must like those way as a scerious cyclist.

If you can get a next intersection, you should take a right way to top of the mountain path.

You can see the sign that indecate to Norikura, so don’t miss it.

From then, you should climb for a long time, because, you should climb at least 1,500 m from the start point that is 1,260m to the top of the mountain path that is 2,702 m.

Eventually, you can see several huge mountains called “North Alpus in Japan”.

You can see several huge mountains such as Hodaka dake, Kasagatake, Yakedake, and Yarigatake in front of you.

You should effort for a long time from then, but the weather is really comfortable.

It’s 20 degrees despite the middle of Summer.

Eventually, you can arrive at the breathtaking road of the mountain.

This road called “Heaven’s road”.

Heaven’s road have many flowers than you expected.

The base of the mountain path called Tatamidaira.

Eventually, you can arrive at the huge facility called “Norikura Tatamidaira”.

This facility consists of restaurant, souvenir shop, and accommodation.

You can have a Japanese traditional food Soba.

Many cyclists like this food, because, the food is good for going on a diet.

I found it difficult to rise a sugar level in the blood. 

You like it right?

Walk to the top of the mountain that is 3,026m high on foot.

By the way, you can return the startpoint, but, you can take a more adventure from then.

From then, you can’t ride on your bike.

You must go to the mountain on foot from Norikura tatamidaira to the peak of the mountain.

You can walk thorough incredible areas.

There are several pond that you can’t image.

The pond has remarkable colors.

You can see the peak of the mountain in front of you soon.

Souvenir shop in front of the mountain.

Eventually, you can see a souvenir shop called “Katano koya”.

You must take a break in this point.

There are several drink, food, and souvenirs.

This is a last point to the mountain.

Climb to the peak.

From then, you should climb hard, because, there are a lot of stones from the volcano.

At first, you aim to climb the first peak called “Kodama dake” that is 2,979.

From then, you can see the peak of the mountain called “Kengamine of Norikura”.

Top of the mountain that is 3,026 m high.

If you can get the peak, you can see all around 360 degrees.
